ABOUT THE EVENT

The Occupy Movement has raised the issue of the income gap and the growing disparity between the rich and the poor to the forefront of our society. As citizens, we have been prompted to understand and respond to this vital issue in an objective, strategic, and practical way. On the evening of December 13th, 2011, the whole community of London is invited to learn from some top researchers and advocates on this complex issue. We will explore the economic and social underpinnings of our current situation, and then look ahead to the future opportunities to enact and inform policy change for our municipality, province, and country.

Whether you are mildly curious about the message of the global Occupy Movement or whether or passionately committed to seeking reform in our society, you are invited to come learn and discover your opportunity and your voice in the 99%.

Please note: This event will not follow the “regular format” of City Symposium gatherings. This event is a specific symposium to aid our on-going community discourse on the issue of income disparity. Come expecting an issue-centric exploration of this topic. This event will feature some presentations longer than our usual 12-minute format. Also, regular participants of City Symposium events should note the earlier than usual start-time: 6:30 p.m.

Event information is also available on the library website.
